The world famous
Glenn Miller Orchestra
swings into Minot for a big band
performance Saturday, June 29, 6:00 p.m.
Be prepared for an afternoon of romance, patriotism
and nostalgia as the 19-piece band plays hits from
the golden era of big band music, such as original
Miller arrangements like "In the Mood," "A String of
Pearls," "Little Brown Jug," and "Moonlight
Serenade" plus other popular songs that have been
arranged in the Glenn Miller style.
The Glenn Miller Orchestra is the most popular and
sought after big band in the world today for both
concert and swing dance engagements. With its unique
jazz sound, the Glenn Miller Orchestra is considered
to be one of the greatest bands of all time.
Nick Hilscher is the leader and Music Director for
the Glenn Miller Orchestra. In 1998, Nick became the
featured male vocalist with the Glenn Miller
Orchestra. He worked with the Glenn Miller Orchestra
for one year, taking a year off from college, and
then returned to school to finish his degree. After
earning his degree in 2000, Nick returned to his
singing post with the Glenn Miller Orchestra,
performing an average of 300 shows a year in venues
like the Hollywood Bowl and New York City's
Birdland. His touring has taken him to all fifty
United States, Canada, Mexico, Europe, South
America, and Japan. During this period, Nick work
with trombone great and past musical director for
the Glenn Miller Orchestra, Larry O'Brien. Nick is
featured on several albums with the Glenn Miller
Orchestra: On The Air (2002) and Steppin' Out
(2005).
Though the Big Band era has passed and the 100th
anniversary of Glenn Miller’s birth occurred in
March 2004, his music still holds the same allure
today that it did during his life. The melodies and
sounds of the Glenn Miller Orchestra continue to
charm audiences of all ages.
